Which Ravens Rookies Will Make Immediate Impact?

Posted on May 17, 2014 by Joe Platania

Not every rookie is going to make an immediate impact for the Ravens -- or any other team, for that matter -- but there are a few that could make their presence felt right away.

In the latest edition of the PressBox unofficial two-deep chart, several of the team's draft picks -- as well as one undrafted rookie -- have been inserted into the mix.

Because of fourth-round pick Lorenzo Taliaferro's pass-protection skills and his big frame (6-foot, 229 pounds), he has been listed as the new reserve fullback behind second-year player Kyle Juszczyk.

Undrafted rookie tackle James Hurst, recovering from a leg injury suffered during a bowl game, is currently placed behind Rick Wagner, who was ostensibly handed the starting right tackle job when Michael Oher left for Tennessee in free agency.

On defense, C.J. Mosley's first-round status and three-down résumé put him ahead of Arthur Brown at weak-side linebacker, with Brown likely to play nickel in the immediate future.

In a scenario the coaching staff would probably welcome, second-year safety Matt Elam moves from free to strong safety, pushing free-agent pickup Darian Stewart to backup status.

That opens the free safety door for third-round pick Terrence Brooks to start right away, which has Ravens holdover Omar Brown as a backup.

For now, a possible defensive line makeover remains on hold, as fourth-round end Brent Urban is still recovering from ankle surgery, and second-round tackle Timmy Jernigan's role has still not been clearly defined.
