Week of November 20

November 26

Any hopes of a trip to the ACC Championship or the Orange Bowl for Maryland were dashed as they fell to Wake Forest, 38-24.  Sam Hollenbach threw three first half interceptions and the Terrapins defense allowed 295 yards on the ground to a mediocre Wake Forest ground game.

Joe Platania previews today's AFC North matchup between the Steelers and the Ravens.

Mike Duffy of Baltimoreravens.com spotlights the key matchups to keep an eye when the Ravens take the field against the Steelers.

The Wizards losing streak has reached four games as they fell to the Detroits Pistons, 115-111.  Gilbert Arenas had 28 points in the losing effort.

NATIONAL

South Florida upset #7 West Virginia while USC helped its National Championship chances with a win over #6 Notre Dame.  Get the rest of Saturday's action from the gridiron here.

LeBron James and the Cavaliers took out the 76ers and the Heat beat the Bobcats.  Check the rest of the NBA action from Saturday here.

Simon Gagne had two goals as the Flyers beat the Canadiens and Ilya Kovalchuk had the lone goal in the Thrashers 1-0 win over the Panthers.  Check out the rest of Saturday's NHL action here.

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano shot down any rumors of him leaving to take the vacant Miami coaching position.  Schiano has guided Rutgers to a surprising 10-1 record and has the Scarlet Knights on the verge of a Big East Championship.

November 25

Steve McNair has been a thorn in Pittsburgh's side. During his tenure as a Titan, McNair has won 10 out of 14 games against the Steelers, racking up 2,452 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. With the Steelers struggling to keep their playoff hopes alive, containing McNair will be a top priority when they play the Ravens this weekend.

The Terps trounced the High Point Panthers 81-63. Ekene Ibekwe led Maryland with 16 points while James Gist secured eight rebounds.

The Demon Deacons have never beaten Maryland under Jim Grobe, the only ACC pre-expansion team yet to fall to Wake Forest during his tenure. With its season on the line, Wake Forest will head into Byrd Stadium fired up and looking to end the game early.

The Wizards lost to the Grizzles 95-80. Caron Butler recorded 22 points and 13 rebounds but Memphis outscored Washington 54-43 in the second half.

NATIONAL

The University of Miami fired head football coach Larry Coker. Despite a 59-15 record, the past three seasons, in which the Hurricanes lost 12 games, signaled a need for change. If the Hurricanes are offered a place in a bowl game, Coker will coach the team one last time.

Carlos Lee signed a six-year contract with the Astros worth $100 million. Lee was in talks with the Orioles in addition to the Astros but Baltimore was unable to offer Lee a deal big enough for him to put on an O's uniform.

Texas A&M defeated Texas 12-7. It was the first time the Aggies had beaten the Longhorns since 1999. With the loss, Texas' claim to the Big 12 South division title could be in jeopardy. If Oklahoma defeats Oklahoma State this weekend, the Sooners will win the division.

In other NCAA football news, Nebraska defeated Colorado 37-14 to improve to 6-2 in the Big 12 and No. 9 LSU pulled out a close win over the No. 5 Arkansas Razorbacks 31-26.

Five different players scored for Carolina to lead the Hurricanes past Boston 5-1. See the rest of the NHL action here.

Steve Francis scored 22 points to lead the Knicks past the Celtics 101-77 and Allen Iverson racked up 46 during the 76ers 123-108 win over the Bulls. Check out all the scores from around the NBA.

November 24

When the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to M&T Bank Stadium this Sunday, they will be bringing one of the top running backs in the NFL.  Willie Parker has used his 4.3 speed to gain 893 yards on the ground but the Ravens are prepared to slow down the speedy back.

Maryland is just one win away from a berth in the ACC Championship but standing in its way is Wake Forest, who has ACC Championship hopes of its own.

In the 87th annual Turkey Bowl, Loyola shut out Calvert Hall, 26-0.  Loyola's sophomore quarterback Leon Kinnard ran for 76 yards and three touchdowns.

Former Orioles pitcher Pat Dobson has died at 64.  Dobson was one of four Orioles pitchers to win 20 games in 1971.

NATIONAL

In what could have been Larry Coker's last game at the helm for Miami, he guided the Hurricanes to an upset win over Boston College, 17-14.  Boston College's loss means that Maryland will clinch a spot in the ACC Championship with a win over Wake Forest.

Tony Romo threw five touchdowns as the Cowboys routed the Buccaneers.  Get all the Thanksgiving NFL action here.

In Thanksgiving NHL action, the Predators blanked the Canucks, 6-0.  Scott Hartnell had two goals and an assist for the Predators.

NOVEMBER 23

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Ravens will be thankful if Ray Lewis can return to the field Sunday when Baltimore hosts the Steelers at M&T Bank Stadium.

Lewis is listed as “questionable” for the game, but either way, the Ravens
