Three Greyhounds Earn All-America Honors

Three Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse players were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America teams on Monday following the Greyhounds' 2011 season where they tied a school record with 13 victories.

Senior attacker Grace Gavin was named to the first team, senior midfielder Abby Rehfuss earned second team plaudits and junior defender Ana Heneberry was tabbed to the third team.

Loyola's three All-Americans are the most it has had since 2004 when Tara Singleton and Rachel Shuck were named to the second team and Sydney Greene to the third team. Gavin, who was a second team honoree last season by the IWLCA, is Loyola's first first teamer since Suzanne Eyler and Marianne Gioffre in 2003.

Gavin, who is also a finalist for the Tewaaraton and Honda Awards, set Loyola career and single-season goals and points-scored records this season. She set the career points-scored record during the regular-season finale and notched the goals mark during the BIG EAST Conference Championship Game versus Notre Dame less than a week later. She finished her four years at Loyola with 311 points and 228 goals and scored at least one point in 70 of 71 career games, and she had a goal in 68 of 71. Her 311 points are 16th all-time in NCAA Division I history, while her 228 goals are tied for 16th.

She earned BIG EAST Conference Attacker of the Year honors for the second-straight season and finished her career with a league-record 94 goals in conference games. She also broke the school's single-season goals and points standards this season, tallying 71 and 98. Gavin ended her career second all-time at Loyola in both assists (82) and draw controls (154).

Rehfuss was a three-time member of the IWLCA All-Region teams during her career at Loyola and earned her first All-America honors this season. She finished the year with 37 goals and 12 assists for 49 points. A consistent scorer throughout her career, Rehfuss finished 11th all-time at the school in points (177), tied for 11th in goals (127) and 12th in assists (50).

An All-BIG EAST First Team member, she also was an integral part of Loyola's draw success, controlling 31 as a senior. Rehfuss, who earned the Loyola Athletic Department's Medal of Merit for combined academic and athletic success at the school's end-of-the-year banquet, finished her career third in Loyola history with 153 draw controls.

Heneberry picked up her first All-America honors as well, and is a two-time All-Region selection. A leader of Loyola's defense that finished 12th in NCAA Division I by allowing just 8.95 goals per game, Heneberry typically drew the assignment of marking the opposing team's top offensive player.

She finished 2011 with 28 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls, helping the Greyhounds lead Division I with 11.75 caused turnovers per game. It is the third-straight season Loyola has topped the nation in the category. During just three seasons at Loyola, Heneberry is fourth all-time at the school with 84 caused turnovers.
