Winning Streak Could Impact Duquette's Decision Making

As the July 31 Major League Baseball trade deadline gets closer, the Baltimore Orioles are facing tough decisions.

The Birds won their fifth straight game Sunday, beating the Indians, 4-3. Zach Britton gave up no runs and four hits during six innings. After struggling so badly for the first two weeks of July, the Orioles are now seven games higher than a .500 record. All of this has coincided with a three-game losing streak from the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Angels have cooled off. The Birds are now tied with Los Angeles for a wild card slot.

Chris Tillman shined on Saturday, following a pretty strong outing from Miguel Gonzalez on Friday.

The Orioles have few legitimate trade chips. Once again, Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy are off the table. The Orioles' future still isn't secure, and the Orioles are so up and down week to week. They don't play like legitimate contenders consistently enough.

As I've said throughout the last two weeks, Dan Duquette faces tough decisions, and this most recent streak isn't going to make that any easier.

I have been unimpressed with every decision Duquette has made at the time of the trade or acquisition.

In hindsight, I was wrong every darned time.
Five days ago I was suicidal & willing to trade every prospect in our Farm System for a 3rd Baseman. I am just going to sit quietly and see what Duquette and Showalter come up with.
So far it has been the most fun season that I recall!

If the Orioles aren't interested in trading Machado or Bundy, the decisions remaining are fairly easy.

Most of the other players who may be traded have been with the Orioles enough, Duquette should have an idea of if and where they fit in. Most of the players left over from the previous general mangler (like Reynolds) won't be fetching much anyway.

I would trade Machado since the Orioles have Hardy already unless they are thinking Hardy will move to third or Machado will move to second. And under no circumstances would I trade either Machado or Bundy for a rent-a-player. I still grind my teeth at the thought of Keith Moreland, and I don't remember what was traded to get him.
