Thome Placed On DL; Andino Called Up
One month after the Orioles acquired aging slugger Jim Thome from the Phillies, the team placed him on the disabled list with a herniated disc in his neck. The club called second baseman Robert Andino off the 15-day DL after he suffered a shoulder injury diving for a ball earlier this month.
During 18 games, Thome has two home runs with six RBIs.
Andino's addition to the lineup might be a mixed bag. He was batting .230 with 21 RBIs. Andino is a decent second baseman, but is error-prone. He has the second-most errors on the team, with 12.
The Orioles were at their best earlier during the season with Andino at second base, but his play slipped in May and June, when he batted .215 and .167, respectively.
