ALDS Game 4 Live Blog: Hardy RBI Gives O's Win In 13th
The Orioles will play another day.
The Birds tied their American League Division Series with the New York Yankees, 2-2, and forced Game 5 thanks to a 13th-inning, RBI double by J.J. Hardy during a 2-1 victory. The Orioles and Yankees will finish their series at Yankee Stadium at 5 p.m. Friday.
Hardy drove in the go-ahead run on a deep double to left field. Manny Machado, who had advanced to third after hitting a double of his own, scored. The rookie has come up with big hits throughout the series. Hardy's RBI was his first of the series.
The Yankees tied the Orioles in the sixth after Robinson Cano hit into a fielder's choice that scored Derek Jeter.
Nate McLouth sent a homer to the right-field bleachers to open the fifth inning and the Orioles went up, 1-0. Until that point, both offenses had stumbled.
The Orioles blew several opportunities earlier, despite having three hits and three walks off Phil Hughes. Again, later during the game, the Orioles bats in the middle of the order, faltered.
Pitcher Joe Saunders allowed just three hits for the Orioles, but walked four and struck out five New York batters.
