Restaurant Review: Of Love & Regret
Maybe we shouldn't be reviewing this bar. It might just be too good. Seriously. Mr. Blue Collar Sports Fan and good ol' Natty Boh Joe wouldn't do well in an establishment with no TVs on the walls, no domestics on tap and no finger foods on the menu. But make no mistake, Of Love & Regret is the best bar in Canton -- and maybe the entire city.
First, let's start with the libations. There are more than 20 craft beers, folks. Yes, you read that right -- more than 20 craft beers from brewers all over the United States and Europe. And we're not talking Sam Adams or Heineken; these are unique concoctions from private, hops-loving diehards with palettes like wine connoisseurs.
They have a wine-like price to them ($8-$9 a glass), but it's worth it. For those seeking something other than beer, they have excellent craft cocktails made with unique bourbons, homemade simple syrup and fresh fruit.
Now, about that TV-less atmosphere. Trust me when I say you won't even notice, unless your sole purpose of coming there was to watch the game. Of Love & Regret caters to conversation, from the mellow, intimate setting (although there is a large window above the bar with a sizable hole in it … ask the bartenders for the story behind it) to the patrons to the bar tenders.
Speaking of the bartenders, they might know more about food and booze than the chefs and brewers themselves. Order up an Evil Twin "Yin and Yang" draft and they'll break it down the way Jon Gruden breaks down a quarterback. Order up a French Burger ($11), and they'll detail the history of the cow where the beef came from.
And, yes, the food is superb, thanks for asking. It's eclectic with an Asian/Europena flare … yeah, no frozen bar pizzas here. Better yet, the price isn't bad; entrees go about $18, with all the trimmings. Of Love & Regret is a study in what a bar can be -- and should be.
