College Football Report

PressBox editor Kevin Heitz watches a wildly-inappropriate number of college football games with Husker-red tinted glasses. But don't worry. He's always got an eye on the national news, and he'll share his insights and observations here.

AP Top 25: Longhorns Out, Ducks Leap Broncos

By Kevin Heitz

For the first time in 10 years, Texas is not in the Associated Press top 25 (and the poll is also without Penn State and Southern California). Following the Longhorns' 28-20 loss to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, the Sooners leapfrogged an idle Nebraska team to claim the No. 6 spot. But the biggest move may have been Oregon bucking the Boise State Broncos out of the third slot.

The Ducks held the Cardinal scoreless after halftime and scored 28 points in the second half to pull away from Stanford, 52-31. Oregon's dominating win in Eugene caused Boise State to drop to No. 4 despite the Broncos' dispatching New Mexico State, 59-0.

Alabama received 58 first place votes out of 60 after the Crimson Tide rolled over Florida, 31-6, to drop the Gators to No. 14, their lowest ranking since Nov. 11, 2007. Ohio State remains firmly in the No. 2 spot.

TCU is fifth with Oklahoma, Nebraska, Auburn, Arizona and Utah rounding out the top 10.
