O's Simon Can Finally Move On
Alfredo Simon was cleared of all charges in the death of his friend earlier this week, closing a dark chapter in the pitcher's life.
Simon was celebrating during a New Year's celebration in the Dominican Republic earlier this year when shots were fired in the air. The bullets were alleged to have come down and struck his friend. Simon never faced charges, but was in jail there for two months.
Simon returned to the Orioles during the season and became a serviceable starting pitcher, at least at times. He never faced the brutal chants many expected for road games, perhaps because he is not well known nationally.
Simon was a positive influence inside the Orioles clubhouse, despite what was hanging over his head. He was respected and performed admirably, sometimes very well. He might not be a cornerstone of the organization, but he can be a nice piece going forward either in the bullpen or in the starting lineup.
