Orioles Need Britton To Get Better
Much will be written over the next couple of days and weeks when it comes to Zach Britton, the Birds' second best starter a year ago during his rookie campaign.
Britton has experienced soreness in his left throwing shoulder at the opening of camp and he has some "competition" from about 11 other would-be pitchers. Let's deal with the straight truth: there aren't many better pitchers than Britton on the roster, certainly not four others. If the Orioles want to have a chance to win, Britton, barring some major setbacks, gives them one of their best chances.
He's the real deal and there was a lot from last year to indicate that. Yes, he struggled and was sent down at various points, but he also had the most impressive success of anyone currently on the roster, showed ability to face off against some of the better American League East teams.
This isn't time for mind games. The Orioles shouldn't act like they're throwing competition his way. Rather, they should be building him up mentally to be a star. The Birds need one. They need someone the team and the city can believe in. Britton's the man for the job. Heal him up and get him ready for the season.
