Same Old Story: Matusz Loses And Defense Struggles For Orioles
Brian Matusz has now lost 12 straight decisions following Friday's 6-3 loss to the Angels Friday in Anaheim.
Matusz had six strikeouts during his best statistical outing of the season, but five innings with four earned runs, six total, still isn't cutting it. The Orioles committed three errors to make matters worse. For some reason, the Orioles became unglued during this recent road trip -- 13 errors -- and that's the kind of play that will hamper the Orioles in May.
The Birds are slugging their way out of games and, beyond Matusz, getting really nice starting pitching.
Matusz's ERA actually dropped during Friday's loss, but no one should take that as a good sign. Major league hitters are having an easy time with the 2008 first-round pick. Turning it around doesn't appear to be an option right now.
The Orioles are trying to fix a flat while going 60 miles per hour. They should consider sending him to Triple-A Norfolk, where he can get the repairs he sorely needs to be effective for the Orioles down the road.
