Stevenson, Salisbury To Meet In Final Four

By Todd McElwee

No. 1 Salisbury easily dispatched with visiting Cabrini College, 14-4, during the NCAA quarterfinals May 16.

A few hours later, and roughly 100 miles away, Stevenson had little trouble with Denison, earning a 14-7 victory that sets up a highly anticipated matchup between the Sea Gulls and Mustangs during the NCAA semifinals May 20.

Sam Bradman tallied six goals to pace Salisbury, including the Sea Gulls' first three. Not to be outdone, Tyler Reid had five goals and an assist for Stevenson. Each team's goaltender, Salisbury's Alex Taylor and the Mustangs' Ian Bolland, made 11 saves.

These Capital Athletic Conference rivals have met twice already, with Salisbury (21-0) beating Stevenson (18-4) both times. During the April 14 regular-season matchup, senior attackman Matt Cannone scored off a feed from junior midfielder Ryan Clarke with just 11 seconds remaining to give the Sea Gulls a 11-10 win. Exactly two weeks later, Salisbury claimed its 17th CAC title with a 12-9 victory.

During the 2010 NCAA semifinals, Salisbury edged their green-and-black rivals in overtime, 14-13. The previous year, Stevenson defeated the Sea Gulls, 11-9, during the quarterfinals.

These are two definitely talented teams. You cannot go wrong with either of them. They are both deserving of the championship. There is nothing better. acid staining
