Reimold Reportedly Headed For Neck Surgery
The injury history of Nolan Reimold will evidently take another turn. According to reports from The Sun before Friday's game with the Nationals, manager Buck Showalter said a decision about taking care of Reimold's problems has been made, but wouldn't discuss it.
If Reimold does indeed have surgery on the bulging disk in his neck, it is possible that his once-promising season is over.
Reimold, in April, settled into being a leadoff hitter and was playing decently in left field. His past struggles, particularly from two years ago, seemed miles away. Reimold has been hobbled by injuries throughout his career.
The Orioles have moved on without him. Brian Roberts, the team's longtime leadoff hitter, is back with the club. Left field is by committee, as is right field while Nick Markakis recovers from his hand surgery. In both cases, Steve Pearce and Chris Davis have been happy to take their opportunities lately.
Reimold eventually will be the odd man out, and this could have been his last, best chance in Baltimore.
