Orioles Grant Moyer's Release
Veteran pitcher Jamie Moyer shined for Triple-A Norfolk in recent weeks, but the Orioles weren't going to give him a shot and demote one of their current arms.
The Orioles granted Moyer's release after he asked for it Saturday. He had a 1.69 ERA during three starts.
It's a downer for people who were looking forward to Moyer donning an O's uniform once again. Moyer will be 50 years old in November, and he struggled with Colorado earlier this season.
If Moyer can make it back on a big league roster, he could continue to ascend up the all-time wins board -- he has 269 during his career, which ranks 34th in MLB history. Moyer may not have been able to duplicate his Triple-A success if he were called up to the Orioles, but his craftiness and intelligence could have been beneficial in some way.
