Machado Called Up To Orioles For Thursday; Bundy Sent To Bowie
The time has come for Manny Machado.
The Orioles selected the contract of their 2010 first-round draft pick late Wednesday night, and he will be in uniform against the Royals Thursday.
Machado, drafted as a shortstop, has been playing for the Double-A Bowie Baysox this season, batting .266 with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs in 109 games. When the Orioles drafted him, he drew comparisons to Alex Rodriguez. Like Rodriguez, Machado might wind up a third baseman.
Now 20, Machado was a high school player when he was the third overall pick in the 2010 draft.
The Orioles' 2011 pick, Dylan Bundy, was promoted to Double-A Bowie Wednesday as well. Bundy has become one of baseball's top minor league players this season, thanks to his overpowering fastball. Bundy dominated Single-A Delmarva before being sent to Single-A Frederick.
