O's Trade For Veteran; Machado Named AL Co-Player Of The Week
Following a weekend when he hit three home runs and drove in seven runs, Manny Machado was honored with the American League Player of the Week Award. He shares the honor with Adrian Gonzalez.
On top of that, the Orioles announced that they have acquired left-handed pitcher J.C. Romero from Cleveland in exchange for minor league infielder Carlos Rojas.
The team said it would select Romero’s contract tomorrow, and he will be added to the 25-man roster, with corresponding moves to also be announced on Tuesday.
Romero was in the Orioles’ system earlier this season, going 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA and 13 strikeouts during 17 appearances for Triple-A Norfolk. He pitched to a 3.12 ERA during eight games with Triple-A Columbus.
Romero is 34-28, with a 4.15 ERA during 675 games (22 starts) played in a 14-year career with Minnesota (1999-2005), the Angels (2006), Boston (2007), Philadelphia (2007-2011), Colorado (2011) and St. Louis (2012).
Rojas batted .226 during 48 games with Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk this season.
