Orioles Crush Mariners; Gain Half-Game On Yankees

The Orioles are now half a game behind the Yankees in the American League East, thanks to a 10-4 win against the Mariners Monday in Seattle. The Yankees were off, allowing the Orioles to chip away at New York's narrow advantage in the division.

The Orioles continue their series with the Mariners Tuesday, while the Yankees host the Blue Jays.

Catcher Matt Wieters hit his third home run in two days Monday during the fourth inning. Wieters, who drove in three runs Monday and scored twice, gave the Birds a 9-1 lead when he homered in the fourth. The Orioles got off to a good start thanks to a first-inning homer by leadoff hitter Nate McLouth. Adam Jones scored four times Monday for Baltimore.

Once again, pitcher Chris Tillman dominated the Mariners, the team that traded him to the Orioles in 2008 as part of the Erik Bedard deal. Jones was also part of that trade. Tillman went six innings, giving up three hits and a run.

The Orioles have won six of seven against the Mariners this season.
