Thome, Patton Come Off DL For Orioles
The surging Orioles are getting an extra boost today with the news that designated hitter Jim Thome and relief pitcher Troy Patton will re-join the club after stints on the disabled list.
Thome was acquired in June from the Phillies, but went on the DL at the end of July with a herniated disc. Thome seemed anxious to return to the club and has done whatever the team has asked, including going to minor league games to scout young players. Thome batted .261, but has yet to provide the power punch the Orioles were looking for in the trade. But Thome could be valuable in key moments, because he is familiar with playoff chases.
Patton is 1-0 with a 2.58 ERA, but has been on the DL since mid-August with a right ankle sprain. He has not let up any runs during the last 18 games (13.2 innings pitched) he's appeared in and has pitched in 50 total games.
