Boston Interviewing Hale For Managerial Job

Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale could be managing against the Birds next season. Hale is expected to interview for the vacant managing spot in Boston, where he was a coach for several years.

Hale was the bench coach for the Red Sox for two years before joining the Orioles last season. Hale was also a minor league manager for Boston as well, so there's a real familiarity for the two parties.

The move makes a lot of sense in many ways, because the Red Sox broke a lot of ties when they fired Terry Francona last season. Boston lost a lot a magic this year under Bobby Valentine, and would do well to turn to the past. The Red Sox, though, are in a tough place. They need to energize their disenchanted fan base while securing future stability. They give the distinct impression they're a mess right now.

Comments:
The Red Sox haven't been in the post-season for three years and were swept out in 2009. Sure, Valentine's arrival was as welcome as the iceberg to the Titanic a hundred years earlier, but the team has since sent a number of players who knew Hale elsewhere.

If Hale is hired, the O's will lose a good 3rd base coach.
