| Media Guide: SFMSports Shines Light On Local Sports | |
By Dave Hughes, DCRTV.com SFMSports.net plugged into the Baltimore City Community College mens basketball team, which won the Maryland state championship in February. The Baltimore-based sports network aired the Region XX Tournament, which featured the Panthers men Feb. 26 and the women March 4. The games aired live at the SFMSports.net Web site in the afternoons, and rebroadcast on Baltimore's sports talk WVIE, Fox 1370, during the evening. "This is exciting. The BCCC Panthers have proven to be a force in the region, and now we can bring the action to Baltimore sports fans," said Steve Clendenin, SFMSports.net's president and CEO. Graham Whaples handled the play-by-play responsibilities. SFMSports.net features player interviews through pre- and postgame shows and a weekly coaches show that are also podcast on the Web site. “We make every effort to include player interviews and features during each game,” says Clendenin. “We want the students and athletes to feel comfortable with a microphone in front of them, so we work with each player to combat the jitters of giving interviews.” "BCCC Athletics is excited about the opportunity to work with SFM,” said Tara Owens, athletic director at Baltimore City Community College. “This will open doors for exposure and allow us to showcase our athletics program and college. The alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and the community will benefit greatly from the radio broadcasting and podcasting.” Clendenin said his company, Sound Foundations Media, is busy working to expand its sports production activities by offering content that is fully produced to radio stations. “We are doing this with SFMSports.net while offering a service to the community by exploring and publicizing the local talented athletes and offering businesses in our own backyard a highly-targeted marketing machine, offering branding on the web through podcasting and on the radio,” Clendenin said. SFMSports.net also produces coverage of the Central Maryland high school lacrosse “Game Of The Week” for the Baltimore market, and the Stephen Decatur Seahawks lacrosse, baseball and softball for talker WQMR (101.1 FM) in the Salisbury-Ocean City market.
