Coach Seaman is in his ninth campaign leading the Tigers and has made the NCAA playoffs four out of the last five years. Towson made it as far as the semifinals in 2001 before losing to eventual national champion Princeton by one goal. According to Seaman, this year's trek toward the summit will depend on performances at several key positions. Foremost in his thoughts is finding consistency in the goal.
"We have Matt Antol, a junior out of Loyola High School who seems to have the most experience and he'll be pushed by Rob Wheeler, a freshman transfer from Maryland, where he red-shirted," Seaman said.
On defense, the Tigers will rely on senior team captain Matt Mehrer and junior Fred Lee. It is in midfield and on the attack where the Tigers seem strongest. Middies Brian Vetter, a junior from Annapolis High and Nick Williams, a senior and tailback on the Tigers' football team, seem to be the scoring punch needed out front.
Senior Bobby Griebe (Boys' Latin) provides stellar attack, having started the last three years. Junior John Engelke also provides a consistent stick behind the goal. Seaman said the third spot will be filled by Randall Cooper (Friends School).
This year Towson faces Delaware, Hopkins, Virginia, Maryland and Loyola in quest of a title. In Seaman's previous eight years at Towson, he has never beaten Hopkins.
