COPPIN STATE EAGLES
The men's cross country team wrapped up its regular season last Saturday in Newark, Del., with a 10th-place finish at the Delaware Invitational at White Clay State Park. The Eagles were once again paced by Anthony Littlejohn, who finished 16th overall as he finished the 8K course in 27 minutes and 25 seconds. Sophomore Carlinton Morgan, freshman Dale Dunn and senior Jieutonne Archer were the next three Coppin State finishers. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Converence Cross Country Championship will be decided Oct. 27 at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach, Va.
The women's volleyball team lost to Howard in three games last Sunday (30-18, 30-21, 30-24). Indira Laurencin and Kanishia Sheppard combined for 20 kills, and the Eagles posted a .172 hitting percentage, their second highest total of the season. Brittany Arvin added nine kills and five digs, while Danyel Davis had seven kills and one block. Coppin will face University of Maryland Eastern Shore Thursday night in Princess Anne and will get a rematch with Howard Sunday in Washington, D.C.
LOYOLA GREYHOUNDS
The men's soccer team (11-2, 4-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) defeated Iona 1-0 last Sunday at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field for the Greyhounds’ fifth straight win. Goalkeeper Milos Kocic led the Greyhounds, who entered the match in a first-place tie with Iona atop the MAAC standings, with his eighth shutout of the season. Sophomore co-captain Tennant McVea scored the game's lone goal in the 73rd minute. Loyola will hit the road to take on Manhattan Friday and St. Peter's (N.J.) on Sunday.
The women's volleyball team held off St. Peter's in a grueling five-game match last Sunday, 30-28, 26-30, 30-27, 28-30 and 15-12 at Reitz Arena. Karlee Woodward set a career-high with 12 total blocks while Maddie Fuller had five block assists, Nina Camaioni added four and Rachel Schillinger posted three. The Greyhounds (16-9 overall, 7-3 MAAC) will travel to Loudonville, N.Y. to play Siena on Saturday before facing Marist in Poughkeepsie N.Y. Sunday.
MORGAN STATE BEARS

Devan James, filling in for injured running back Chad Simpson, rushed for 19 of his team-high 73 yards in overtime to help set up a 23-yard game-winning field goal by James Meade as the Bears edged Howard, 36-33, last Saturday at Hughes Stadium before a record crowd of 14,987. Meade connected on three of four field goals and improved to 11-for-16 for the season. Simpson, who ranked fifth in the nation in rushing heading into the game, was held to 15 yards on 13 carries before leaving the game with an injured ankle. Morgan (4-3, 3-1 MEAC) heads to Dover, Del., Saturday to battle Delaware State.
The women's basketball team opened practice with high expectations last week as the Bears were picked to finished fourth in the MEAC preseason poll. Corin Adams was a second-team selection on the All-MEAC team. Morgan finished fourth last season with an 11-7 MEAC record and advanced to the title game for the third time in the program's history. The Bears' 18 wins set a new school record for most victories in Division I.
NAVY MIDSHIPMEN
The men's soccer team (5-4-2, 0-3-0 Patriot League) outshot American, 14-8, and drew nine corner kicks, but couldn't find the net in a disappointing 1-0 loss last Saturday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The Midshipmen were shut out for the third straight game for the first time since the 2005 season. Navy is currently riding a 327-minute scoreless streak. The Mids host Holy Cross Saturday.
The women's volleyball team (15-8, 4-3 Patriot League) downed Lafayette in three games last Saturday at Macdonough Hall, (30-17, 30-21, 30-28) as they held the Leopards to a .145 attack percentage. With 19 kills, a .409 attack percentage, six digs and three blocks, Rachel Dogherty led Navy, which set a school record, winning its 12th three-game victory of the season. The Middies will close their home portion of the conference schedule this weekend with matches against Holy Cross and Army.
TOWSON TIGERS
Hofstra held Towson (3-4, 1-4 Colonial Athletic Assocation) to just 193 total yards of offense, spoiling the Tigers' homecoming with a 20-3 victory last Saturday before 7,856 at Unitas Stadium. Senior linebacker Brian Bradford led Towson with 13 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles and an interception. Hofstra held senior quarterback Sean Schaefer, who was named CAA and National Offensive Player of the Week the week before, to a career-low 123 yards passing, sacking him four times. Towson hits the road Saturday to take on Colgate.
The women's soccer team snapped a three-game winless streak Sunday, shutting out Delaware 1-0 at the Towson Center Soccer Complex. It was the Tigers’ first win over the Blue Hens since 2001. Senior defender Meghan Labiak scored the first goal of her college career with 4:19 left in the first half when she scored off a corner kick from senior forward Marissa Gross. Senior goalkeeper Brandi Daniels made four saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season and 17th of her career. Towson has two road games against William & Mary Friday and Old Dominion Sunday.
UMBC RETRIEVERS
The men's soccer team opened up fast and held on to blank Maine 3-0 last Saturday at UMBC Soccer Stadium. Kevin Gnatiko and Andrew Gillis each scored in the first 7:01 of the contest to get the Retrievers off to a quick start. It was Gillis' team-leading fifth goal of the season. At the 38-minute mark, freshman midfielder Levi Houapeu capped the scoring when he dished to Sean Rothe, who tucked the ball in for his first career goal. The Retrievers (6-4-2, 2-1-0 America East) are back home Saturday against Albany for homecoming at 1 p.m.
The volleyball team (19-5, 4-1 America East) won its 10th straight home match last Friday when it downed defending America East champ Albany 3-2 (24-30, 32-30, 21-30, 30-27, 15-11) in a five-set match on Friday at the RAC Arena. Sophomore Ashley Oscars led the Retrievers, who have won three straight matches, with 24 kills and 11 digs while adding two assisted blocks. Sophomore Kira Giles added a career-high 68 assists along with 18 digs. UMBC will have a home-and-home with Binghamton Friday in Vestal, N.Y., at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at the RAC Arena.
