After getting beaten by USC, 38-0, Oct. 20, the Fighting Irish don't seem to be in much of a fighting mood. In fact, that's been the mood of the team this year. Besides a turnover-filled giveaway game at UCLA, the Irish have been stumbling through their season and have been outscored, 204-80. Notre Dame's offense is slow and anemic and hopes to turn things around against Navy's 106th-ranked defense.
Charlie Weis is likely thrilled his team has Navy, Air Force, Duke and Stanford to close the season to give the Irish a chance to make their record respectable. He better think twice on that with Stanford and Duke getting off the schnide this season winning on the road (Stanford beating USC and Duke knocking off Northwestern) and Air Force and Navy each on their way to bowl eligibility. This could be the season that Navy comes in and finally beats the Irish in South Bend.
Player to Watch: The Leprechaun Mascot
It has been a difficult season for Touchdown Jesus and the Golden Domers. The only thing that is fun to watch on game day in South Bend is the little green costumed guy running around the field, trying to keep his Irish faithful excited. The offense stinks, the defense is not really any better, and the coaching staff is one of the most unaccountable in the country.
