Maryland Opponent Preview: Middle Tennessee
Maryland Terrapins vs. Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders
Date: Sept. 6, 2007
Time: 7 p.m.
TV: CSN Radio: Terrapins Radio Network
A valiant comeback attempt came up short for Middle Tennessee State in its first game of the season. Trailing Troy by three touchdowns, the Blue Raiders cut it to a one-score game before eventually falling, 31-17.
Quarterback Joe Craddock started six games last season and is an accurate passer with decent mobility. Phillip Tanner and Desmond Gee split the load at running back with Tanner possessing the size while Gee provides speed and the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.
KEY MATCHUP
Terps Offensive Line vs. Blue Raiders Rush Defense
Maryland's offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage against Delaware, allowing Da'Rel Scott and Davin Meggett to run wild. The two combined for 249 yards and a touchdown and should have the opportunity to post similar numbers against a defense that gave up just under 200 rushing yards a game last season.
To Middle Tennessee State's credit, the defense generated consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks last season and forced four turnovers in last week's loss to Troy.
