Jeff Beauchamp is leaving his day-to-day work at WBAL radio (1090 AM) after nearly 34 years.

The vice president and station manager of the Baltimore news talker, which carries a good amount of local sports including the Ravens, will become a consultant for the station. He's taking a package offered by station owner Hearst.

"This has been a great company to work for," Beauchamp said. "This was their decision. They have that right and privilege and I'm moving forward."

"WBAL radio is the most influential voice in Maryland and one of the most honored stations in the country," said WBAL general manager Ed Kiernan. "Jeff's track record of success is second to none. There is no way to overstate his leadership in the formidable history of WBAL radio. On a personal level, Jeff and I have worked together for over 18 years. He's opinionated, loud and proud with outstanding instincts. His attention to detail is legendary. Jeff taught me, and many of you, how the job should be done and I am eternally grateful."

Starting Aug. 3, Baltimore's Fox Sports 1370, WVIE, will start "The Rob Long Show" one hour earlier, at 8 a.m. instead of 9.

Baltimore sports radio veteran Bill Rohland has been paired with Washington Post sports reporter Mike Wise at middays on CBS’s new D.C. sports talker 106.7 The Fan, WJFK.

Rohland used to work at 105.7 FM, back when it was WHFS, and at sports talker ESPN 1300 AM.

On July 20, CBS launched a new sports talker in D.C. to replace the “guy talk” on WJFK, 106.7 FM. The firm is in the process of launching FM sports talkers across the country.
Last fall, Baltimore’s 105.7 The Fan was born. The D.C. sports station will be a direct competitor to Redskins owner Dan Snyder’s ESPN 980, WTEM.

There are also rumblings CBS may launch an FM sports talker in Philadelphia by moving or simulcasting its current sports talk AM station, WIP, on the FM band -- maybe via 94.1, where classic rock WYSP currently is. Stay tuned.

Via his Sports Media Journal blog, Ray Frager says CBS, which owns Baltimore sports talker 105.7 The Fan WJZ-FM, wants a "fix" for the "Playmakers" show, hosted by Jeremy Conn and Ken Weinman.

Bethesda-based Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic will air five World TeamTennis matches featuring the Washington Kastles and other teams, including Serena Williams, Venus Williams, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova and Andre Agassi.
The series began on July 21 and runs through Aug. 1 with the Advanta World TeamTennis championship finals from Kastles Stadium in D.C.
