PressBox Q&A: Caroline Seats
Roland Park Country School junior Caroline Seats is a three-sport athlete -- a three-time IAAM All-Star in field hockey and a two-time conference All-Star in lacrosse. A member of the Sky Walkers Lacrosse Program team, Seats been nominated for the Tewaarton Award 2010 Girls Watch List and has committed to play lacrosse at Georgetown University.

PressBox: What was the first sport you ever played?
Caroline Seats: First sport I ever played was soccer.

PB: How old were you when you began playing sports?
CS: I started playing lacrosse when I was 6, but didn't start playing field hockey until I was 12.

PB: As a multi-talented athlete in field hockey, track and lacrosse which sport is your favorite to play, and why?
CS: That’s a tough question, but I would have to say lacrosse because I put the most time into it by far.

PB: How do you prepare for a game?

CS: I am extremely superstitious, so I have a set routine for every game. I often have to listen to the same songs and eat the same food before games. It is sometimes a problem. I have to do my five minutes of mental imagery. … A coach told me to try it a few years ago and I have done it ever since. It really helps.

PB: What is the most important lesson or skill Sky Walkers has taught you?
CS: Sky Walkers has taught me so much that it is hard to pick one thing. But, I would have to say that I have learned how to be completely dedicated to a team. We spend so much time together so the connection on our team is amazing. We practice the most in the fall and summer, but also throughout the winter, so it is very rare that I don’t play lacrosse for more than a week at a time. My lacrosse skills have been most improved by just trying new things during practices and not worrying about what the result may be.

PB: How do you hope to improve the Roland Park Country School varsity lacrosse team next year?
CS: Next year will be the best year so far for my high school experience on Roland Park’s lacrosse team, I think. This year we grew a great amount and we learned how physically and mentally in shape we must be to win. The games we lost this year were often very close, so next year we will have the experience to pull out wins, hopefully.

PB: Why did you choose Georgetown?

CS: I chose Georgetown University because it had the most to offer. The education, town, teammates, coaches and athletics are all tremendous there. I think it will be the perfect fit for me.

PB: After college what are your aspirations?
CS: After college I hope to have the opportunity to work in New York City.

PB: Do you plan on coaching either field hockey or lacrosse as you get older?
CS: I coached a Lutherville rec lacrosse team last year and had a blast. I can definitely see myself coaching in the future.

PB: What player or coach do you look up to most?
CS: Michael Jordan. And I wear his number!
