CSN Names New Capitals Insider

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic has named veteran hockey writer Chuck Gormley to the position of Capitals Insider, where he will serve as the primary reporter covering the Washington Capitals for CSNwashington.com and the network's entire digital media portfolio.
A journalist with more than two decades of experience as a hockey beat reporter, Gormley will provide daily coverage of the Washington Capitals and NHL across the network's Web sites, mobile platforms and social media outlets. The veteran sports writer will also contribute to Comcast SportsNet's on-air coverage of the Capitals within its news and entertainment programming.
Gormley joins Comcast SportsNet after spending the past 23 seasons covering the Philadelphia Flyers and the NHL for the South Jersey Courier-Post. During his more than two decades as a hockey writer, he has covered more than 1,000 NHL games, including the Flyers' trips to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1998 and 2010.
Gormley has also been a regular contributor for a variety of national Web sites, including NBCSports.com and NHL.com, and he has been featured regionally on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and CSNPhilly.com.
He recently authored a Flyers-themedbook, "Orange, Black & Blue: The Greatest Philadelphia Flyers Stories Ever Told," and maintains his own hockey blog at ChucksPuck.com.

The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network did not exercise a 2012 option for Washington Nationals play-by-play announcer Bob Carpenter by the early August deadline, according to washingtonpost.com.
A MASN spokesman said the decision did not imply Carpenter would or would not return for next season, only that MASN would need to negotiate a new contract for him during the offseason if they intended to keep him, and if he intended to stay.
Carpenter reportedly said he hoped his option for 2012 would be picked up and neither he nor his agent agreed for the optioned not be exercised.
Carpenter joined MASN in 2006 after 10 years as the play-by-play announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals.

The latest batch of Baltimore market radio ratings, for mid-July, shows WJZ-FM, 105.7 The Fan's Ed Norris and Steve Davis in eighth place in morning drive, among the overall age 12+ demographic. Country WPOC and 98 Rock, WIYY, took the top two spots in mornings.
In the full-day sports talker numbers, age 12+ demo, WJZ-FM was 15th, WJZ-AM 31st, WTEM 36th, and WNST 57th. WBAL-AM, which is sports talk in evenings with the Orioles, placed eighth.
