2012 Men's Lacrosse Season Previews: Maryland
By Barrett Neale
Coach: John Tillman, second season
Conference: Atlantic Coast
2011 record: 13-5, 1-2
The Terps, ranked eighth in the Inside Lacrosse preseason poll, return five starters from last year's squad, which made it to the NCAA championship game. Also returning is junior midfielder Curtis Holmes, who collected a team-best 78 ground balls last year and held a faceoff win percentage of 62.9, seventh best in the country.
Almost one-third of the team's 2011 point production came from Ryan Young and Grant Catalino, who have graduated, but junior Owen Blye (33 points) and senior Joe Cummings (32) can continue to contribute to the offensive output.
Six Terps made Inside Lacrosse's preseason All-America list -- junior midfielders Holmes (first), Jesse Bernhardt (third), John Haus (honorable mention) and Mike Chanenchuk (honorable mention); Cummings (second); and sophomore goalkeeper Niko Amato (honorable mention).
