The big buzz this week was without a doubt WNST's rally at the Orioles game. While I usually cover youth sports, the O's are an important part of our community, especially for youth baseball, so this Coach's Buzz is dedicated to a pro team.

Hats off to this week's rec spotlight team, the LTRC Boys Under-10B Travel Team, a.k.a. the Lutherville Leopards. The Leopards are led by coaches Larry Goss, Bob Johnson and Sam Stevens.

The Ravens have improved interest in football at all levels in the state. Youth football programs that had trouble fielding three teams are now running 20-team leagues. High school programs continue to expand each year.

Making up rec football games is difficult. And when it happens it should be because of the weather, not a miscommunication among adults. When refs don't show, both teams lose.

Coach Bill Casagrande never played youth football, but his efforts to create an unlimited weight league where heavier kids can play has opened the world of football to many kids who might not otherwise have had the chance.

Nationally ranking high school teams is a recruiting tool for college coaches. Without such rankings, coaches could not find top players.

The Essex Express A baseball team plays in the Baltimore County Major League 15-19 Division and is led by coaches Brian Brown and John Luke.

Are You Ready for Some Football?
Thanks to the NFL, kids across the country get a taste of the game through the NFL Junior Player Development Program. Locally, 150 kids took part in the program at Dunbar High School.
