I'll Have Another Scratched From Belmont Stakes

By PressBox Staff

I'll Have Another, the winner of this year's Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, has a swollen left front tendon and will not race in the Belmont Stakes, trainer Doug O'Neill said June 8 on "The Dan Patrick Show."

O'Neill will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. Friday to discuss the decision. I'll Have Another's absence from the Belmont Stakes field ensures that for a 34th consecutive year, there will be no Triple Crown winner.

The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Affirmed, in 1978. Before I'll Have Another's Preakness victory May 19, the last horse to win the first two jewels of the Triple Crown was Big Brown, in 2008.

This is one of the hardest things to do is a scratch a horse. You really hate for them to miss a big race like this but it happens. No way around it. Italian restaurants in Woodbridge
