By The Numbers: The Orioles' September Stats
The Orioles went 19-9 in the month of September en route to clinching the team's first playoff berth since 1997. Here's a look back at some of the notheworthy numbers:
For the month, the Orioles ranked No. 1 in the American League in:
* Runs Scored -- 153 (Yankees second with 146)
* Hits -- 274 (Royals second with 262)
* Home Runs -- 47 (Rays second with 44)
* Total Bases -- 472 (Rangers second with 433)
* Wins -- 19 (Angels second with 18)
The Orioles were third in batting average at .270, just one point behind the Indians and Angels (both at .271).
And if it seemed as if the Orioles were playing more than their fair share of extra-inning games, you're not imaging things. Baltimore led the majors in innings pitched, with 266.0 (Royals second with 261.2).
