The Coppin State women's volleyball team won two straight matches last week, defeating Howard University on Oct. 17 and Hampton University on Oct. 20. In the Hampton match, senior Andrea McGant recorded 22 digs to become the first player in CSU history to reach 1,000 career digs. Brittany Arvin and Indira Laurencin led the Eagles in kills with 17 each. Arvin moved into fifth in the Coppin State record books for kills in a season with 235 while Laurencin's team-leading five blocks moved her into fifth place in career blocks at CSU with 52. With the win over Hampton, the Eagles moved to 3-5 in the MEAC and 6-18 overall.

In women's basketball news, junior forward Roniece Williams has withdrawn from school and is no longer with the program according to head coach Derek Brown. Williams played in all 31 games last year and averaged 2.2 points per game. The women's team has won two straight MEAC championships and is once again the favorite to win the conference. Junior Rashida Suber, who was the MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player last season, was selected as the MEAC preseason Player of the Year.

The 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team won its 11th straight game last Saturday, downing Ursinus 4-0. The Blue Jays improved to 15-1-0 on the season and 7-0-0 in the Centennial Conference. Senior goalkeeper Danny Coble extended his school and conference record shutout streak of 954:20.

Loyola Greyhounds
The Loyola men's soccer team had an up-and-down week that ended with a 3-0 loss at Iona last Sunday. Before that, the Greyhounds upset the 15th-ranked Fairfield Stags 1-0 Friday night in Connecticut. Sophomore Josh Taylor scored in the 34th minute and senior goalkeeper Justin Chelland registered his third straight shutout. The Greyhounds defeated the Gaels 4-0 on Diane Geppi-Aikens Field as four different Loyola players scored goals. Loyola finishes the regular season on the road, facing Manhattan on Oct. 27 and St. Peter's on Oct. 29.

Morgan State Bears
The Morgan State football team (4-4, 3-2 in the MEAC) had its homecoming spoiled by Delaware State, losing 29-7 last Saturday in front of 13,557 fans. The Hornets capitalized on two Bears' fumbles and two blocked punts. The Bears did get some good news when quarterback Byron Selby, who had been sidelined with a broken finger, provided Morgan's only score as he hit tight end Leroy Ethridge for a 2-yard touchdown strike.
The Bears will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida A&M.

Last week, Morgan State linebacker Jarrell Guyton was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week and placekicker Jonathan Skeete was named MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Guyton posted nine tackles and recovered a fumble against Howard, which he ran about 20 yards before pitching it back to defensive back Everette Baker, who ran another 79 yards for the game-winning touchdown.
