Babe Ruth Birthplace And Museum

The Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum is located at 216 Emory St. in Baltimore, three blocks west of Camden Yards. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Museum Of Negro Leagues Baseball

Visit the Hubert V. Simmons Museum of Negro Leagues Baseball in the Owings Mills branch of the Baltimore County Public Library. The museum is named after Bert Simmons, who played for the Baltimore Elite Giants. The museum is open daily, and admission is free. Volunteers are always welcome. Dec. 26-31: Governor’s Challenge

The 39th Governor’s Challenge Basketball Tournament will feature 120 teams in partnership with DMVelite Showcase Events. The tournament will be held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, JM Bennett High, Wicomico High, Parkside High and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Volo City Basketball

Volo City’s Baltimore basketball leagues run throughout the year in neighborhoods including Canton, Federal Hill, Mt. Washington and more. Men’s and coed leagues present full-court competition in a fast-paced, competitive yet social atmosphere. Volo City will provide referees and team shirts. Winter Golf Outing Series

Jan. 1 — New Year’s Day Resolution Run

The New Year’s Day Resolution is a way to lose some holiday pounds and help out in the community. The 5K run/walk will be held entirely in Patterson Park and begin at the Pavilion at 2 p.m. Registration costs $35 for adults and $20 for kids ages 12 and under. Dec. 27 — Military Bowl Presented By Northrop Grumman

North Carolina and Temple will play in the Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Md., at noon. Proceeds from the game benefit the United Service Organizations and Patriot Point, a 290-acre retreat for recovering service members, their families and caregivers on the Eastern Shore.

Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore’s outdoor fifth floor Harbor Terrace has been transformed into a 1,800-square-foot synthetic ice skating rink boasting expansive views of both the harbor and city skyline. The rink is filled with holiday sights and sounds featuring hundreds of twinkling lights, festive holiday decor and music. Jan. 16 — “The Capital Of Basketball” Launch Event

The Historical Society of DC will host a launch event for John McNamara’s “The Capital Of Basketball: A History Of D.C. Area High School Hoops.” A start time will be announced later. McNamara was killed in the Capital Gazette newsroom shooting in June 2018. His book was completed by his widow, Andrea Chamblee, and D.C. sportswriter David Elfin. Until Jan. 20 — Ice Rink At Baltimore’s Inner Harbor

The ice rink at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is open until Jan. 20. A skating session costs $10 for adults and $9 for seniors, children and military personnel. A skate rental is $4. Various events will take place at the rink throughout the winter, including Chanukah On Ice (Dec. 22), a New Year’s Eve celebration (Dec. 31) and Closing Glow Party at the Ice Rink (Jan. 20). Volleyball At Mountain Christian Church

Mountain Christian Church in Fallston, Md., will host a volleyball league on Tuesdays from 7-10 p.m. This is for players ages 16 and up with intermediate to advanced skill levels. The league is $50 per person. Free coed pickup volleyball is also available at MCC on Wednesdays from 6:30-9 p.m. until April 1.
