Lacrosse season is right around the corner, and for thousands of enthusiasts it officially kicks off this weekend at the 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention (Jan. 21-23, Baltimore Convention Center).

The world's largest educational lacrosse event will be a celebration of the sport as more than 5,000 lacrosse coaches, officials, program administrators and exhibitors sharing their love of lacrosse.

On Jan. 21, six-time Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee will give the keynote address the event at 7:00 p.m. at the Baltimore Convention Center.

"US Lacrosse is honored to have such a world-class athlete and humanitarian deliver the keynote address at our 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention," US Lacrosse president and CEO said. "Jackie Joyner-Kersee's accomplishments are extraordinary, and we're excited to expose the national lacrosse community to her inspirational message."

"Showing grace under pressure is a universal challenge for coaches, athletes, referees and parents in every sport," said Joyner-Kersee. "I am honored to share my ideas and experiences with the attendees of the 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore."

Saturday brings the return of Fan Fest, presented by ABC2 WMAR-TV. From 12 to 4 p.m. the convention will open its doors to the public. In the EXPO Hall, more than 140 vendors will showcase the latest lacrosse equipment, clothing, technology and more.

Fan Fest attendees will have the opportunity to watch live field demonstrations from some of the top lacrosse players and coaches in the world, including: the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) U19 World Championships bound U.S. U19 women's national team; the 2010 MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks; Lacrosse Magazine's lacrosse-specific strength and conditioning coach Rashad Devoe; and Hall of Famer and Glenelg Country School boys' head coach Tom Marechek.

"With the help of dedicated outlets like ABC2, WMAR-TV, lacrosse is gaining more visibility and popularity in the media, through which lacrosse is available to people who might not otherwise get to see a game," said Bill Rubacky, US Lacrosse managing director of communications. "Last year we had a record attendance enjoy Fan Fest. This year we look forward to working with ABC2 to welcome anyone who wants to get a closer look at the game and industry."
