WR Donte' Stallworth
is the Baltimore Ravens' 2010 Ed Block Courage Award winner.
The 2010 campaign didn't go smoothly for Stallworth. He missed the first seven games of the season when he broke his foot in a preseason game against the New York Giants, but he now feels that he has found his niche with the Ravens.
"I felt like I had a good training camp and preseason," Stallworth said. "Then I had the broken foot, which kept me out for seven games. That was really hard. It was really difficult to not be able to play and sit back and watch my teammates. I was able to keep my head in the game and I did my best by encouraging everyone and being an extra coach on the sidelines and now I'm getting back into the flow of things on the field. Hopefully now I'm really preparing myself to help this team win a championship."
Stallworth returned to the NFL in 2010, after being suspended by the league for the 2009 season. He took full responsibility for a tragic accident that happened in 2008. Stallworth fulfilled all the obligations associated with the accident, including the felony charges. Instead of challenging the legal process, he felt it was, morally, the right thing to do. Stallworth served his one-year suspension and the Baltimore Ravens signed him in February 2010.
Stallworth is honored to be the Ravens' representative this year.
"It [winning the award] means a lot, especially with this being my first year on the team," Stallworth said. "It lets me know that I have made some kind of impact on these guys in the locker room. I've always been a person of integrity and tried to always do the right things. It means that people see that that's the kind of person that I am once they get to know me."
