Connie and George Martin have been hosting international players for the Cal Ripken World Series since 2003.
"We both love baseball," Connie Martin said. "And anything to help the community out. We were willing to give it a try. ... Since we are residents of Aberdeen [Maryland], we wanted to do what we could to help. After the first year, we were hooked."
For the Martins, the opportunity to serve as a host family also represents a chance to learn about new cultures and to share their own.
"Baseball is an international language," George Martin said. "Whether they're Japanese, Korean, Mexican, wherever they're from, baseball is a common language."
