Racing fans can enjoy double the action this weekend at Laurel Park with both live racing and the simulcasting of the Breeders' Cup from Southern California's Del Mar Racetrack.
The Breeders' Cup, the most prestigious thoroughbred event outside the Triple Crown races, will feature 13 races from Del Mar Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4. With the Breeders' Cup being run on the West Coast, local horse racing enthusiasts can show up at Laurel early in the day, enjoy a full card of live track action and then stay through the evening for top-flight simulcast racing.
Post time at Laurel Park each day is 12:30 p.m. The first Breeders' Cup race is scheduled for 5:25 p.m. EST Nov. 3 and 3 p.m. EST Nov. 4, with the $6 million Breeder' Cup Classic set for 8:35 p.m.
Laurel's gates will open at 11 a.m. both days. General parking, admission and seating are free.
Of local interest in the Breeders' Cup, Raymond Mamone's Imperial Hint -- a 4-year-old winner of back-to-back stakes races at Laurel Park earlier this year, including the General George Handicap in February -- will attempt to cap his undefeated season in the $1.5 million Breeders' Cup Sprint Nov. 4. Imperial Hint is 4-for-4 in 2017.
Interestingly, one of his rivals is Whitmore, who was the winner of this year's Maryland Sprint at Pimlico Race Course. Post time for that race is 5:37 p.m. EST.
On Nov. 3, there will be a buffet from noon to 5 p.m. in TIPS and Tycoons restaurants for $40. Afternoon snacks will also be available a la carte.
On Nov. 4, there will be buffets in Tycoons ($40) and both TIPS restaurant and Terrace Dining ($60 each), all from noon to 5 p.m.
Laurel Park will also have live racing Sunday, Nov. 5 and Monday, Nov. 6.
