PressBox is partnering with the Aberdeen IronBirds to spotlight the team’s promotions and theme nights throughout the 2019 season.

As William Shakespeare said, a baseball team by any other name would be just as fun. Well, maybe not exactly.

But the Aberdeen IronBirds have two upcoming name changes that promise to be just as fun and extra special.

Aberdeen Steamed Crabs

On Friday, July 19, the Aberdeen IronBirds transform into the Aberdeen Steamed Crabs presented by APGFCU for one night only.
This will be the third consecutive year the Steamed Crabs will resurface at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. This season, there will be a clash of the crustaceans as the Steamed Crabs host the Connecticut Lobster Rolls, the alter ego of the Connecticut Tigers, in a battle for seafood supremacy.

The 2019 Aberdeen Steamed Crabs will feature all new on-field caps and uniforms. Official Steamed Crabs merchandise is available for purchase at every IronBirds game in the hangar or online at ironbirdsbaseball.com/shop.

Kalvin the Krab molted his shell this offseason and returns with all new Krabittude and a brand new look. Catch up with Kalvin the Krab the throughout the game as he take photos and sign autographs for fans.
Following the game, the sky above Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium will light up with Harford County’s best fireworks show.

Aberdeen Legacy

To honor the Ripken family legacy in Harford County and throughout Maryland, the IronBirds, owned by Bill and Cal Ripken Jr., will re-brand their identity for one night only, taking the field as the Aberdeen Legacy on Saturday, Aug. 3. The evening will celebrate the Ripken family, Bill and Cal’s respective on-field legacies and the legacy of the family in Harford County. Learn more about what led Cal and Bill to bring Minor League and youth baseball to Aberdeen and Harford County and to continue working to develop the youth baseball game around the world.

The special Aberdeen Legacy uniforms will feature a black-and-orange-themed design and will have a home plate-shaped patch with Cal Jr., Cal Sr. and Bill’s numbers (8, 7 and 3) on the right sleeve. The left sleeve patch features Cal and Bill’s iconic defensive silhouettes. The Legacy’s hats pay tribute to the Iron Man’s historic career with Cal Jr.’s swing silhouette on the front and 2,632, the number of consecutive games the Iron Man played, embroidered on the side.
