Ravens HC John Harbaugh Expects Jimmy Smith To Play At 'High Level' Vs. Patriots

November 1, 2019
Jimmy Smith is expected to make his first appearance since Week 1 when the Ravens host the New England Patriots on "Sunday Night Football" Nov. 3, as the nine-year cornerback returns from a sprained knee sustained in the season opener against Miami.

Smith is officially listed as questionable, but after the team's Friday workout, head coach John Harbaugh said, "He's going to play ... and I expect him to play at a high level."

The Ravens are also expected to have linebacker Patrick Onwuasor (ankle) and wide receiver Marquise Brown (ankle/thigh), both of whom missed the past two games. They are each listed as questionable and were eased back through limited work in practice this week -- Brown was held out of the Nov. 1 workout altogether.

Asked about Brown's availability, Harbaugh said, "There's a certain number of reps that we're working through right now with him. So I do expect him to be out there on Sunday unless something unforeseen happens."

Although all three of those players are recovering from injuries, the Ravens are about as healthy as they could hope for the Week 9 showdown against the undefeated Patriots (8-0).

Smith's return bolsters a secondary whose depth was considered a strength this summer but has since been hit by a rash of injuries, including season-ending injuries to top slot cornerback Tavon Young, starting safety Tony Jefferson and backup safety DeShon Elliott.

Safety and special teamer Brynden Trawick and rookie cornerback Iman Marshall are on injured reserve as well, and reserve cornerback Maurice Canady is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Smith figures to work into a rotation that includes Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Carr and Marcus Peters, who was acquired in a trade two weeks ago in part because of the rash of injuries in the secondary. Peters paid immediate dividends with a 67-yard interception return touchdown in the Ravens' 30-16 win over Seattle, his first game with the team.

For the Patriots, running back James White (toe) was added to the injury report and is listed as questionable.

Here is the full, final injury report:
