October 12, 2009

By Ray Schulte

Rick Dempsey broke into the big leagues Sept. 23, 1969 with the Minnesota Twins, and he went on to enjoy a 24-year career playing for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers and, of course, the Baltimore Orioles.

An Oriole fan-favorite since his playing days, Dempsey currently provides Baltimore baseball fans with great insight as an in-studio analyst for the MASN network's broadcast of Orioles games.

Now, Dempsey is about to break into the ranks of professional singers and entertainers.  Vista Records recently announced the CD release of "Rick Dempsey's Home Run Holiday with the Deanna Bogart Band." Yes, the former 1983 World Series MVP has collaborated with two-time Blues Music Award winner and renowned producer Deanna Bogart on a collection of holiday classics.

Included are songs such as a blues version of "Merry Christmas Baby," a duet of "What Are You Doing News Years Eve," and holiday favorite "Joy To The World." Dempsey's soothing, down-home vocals will surprise many. In addition to Dempsey, Bogart and her band, the CD features members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Scott Ambush, Mike Aubin, Dan Leonard, Matt Wigler and the Knight Brothers.

Dempsey and the Deanna Bogart Band will be making a limited number of live appearances in and around the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area.

"Home Run Holiday" will be released Oct. 20. For more information, check out www.RickDempsey24.com.
