Maryland Live! Casino is offering a free 12-week course to prepare interested applicants for job openings in the gaming industry.
Because Question 7 passed in the Nov. 6 election, Maryland Live! will soon introduce 24-hour gaming and live table games. As a result of these impending changes, Maryland Live! will be hiring more than 1,200 new employees.
About 800 of those jobs will be for table games dealers. In association with Anne Arundel Community College, Maryland Live! will educate people in the skills necessary to be a table games dealer through a 12-week Dealer School, which will begin Jan. 7, 2013.
Licensed instructors will teach the classes, focusing primarily on Blackjack, Craps, Roulette and Mini-Baccarat. After completing the 12-week class, Dealer School students can interview for one of the dealer job openings at Maryland Live!, although graduates are not automatically granted positions at the casino.
The school's morning, afternoon and evening classes will all take place Monday through Friday at the Marley Station Mall in Glen Burnie. All students must be at least 21 years old, and interested applicants can learn more about becoming a dealer at Maryland Live! by attending one of eight information sessions.
The information sessions are being held at four locations: the Doubletree by Hilton Bethesda (11 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 20, 3-7 p.m. Nov. 21), the Hunt Valley Inn (11 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 27, 3-7 p.m. Nov. 28), the Hotel at Turf Valley (11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 3, 3-7 p.m. Dec. 4) and the Sheraton Annapolis Hotel (11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 5, 3-7 p.m. Dec. 6).
Dealer School applications are available online at marylandlivecasino.com and must be submitted before the end of December. Interviews, assessments and basic math tests will also be given to potential students.
Experienced table games dealers can apply directly for a position, without attending the Dealer School, by visiting jobsatmarylandlivecasino.com. The site includes additional job openings in departments such as facilities, security, surveillance, environmental services, marketing and players club, finance and cage operations.
